The Ordre des architectes du Québec today unveiled the 25 architectural projects finalists for its 2021 Awards of Excellence in Architecture. These projects are in the running for the Public Prize, the online voting of which will take place until March 21. The public is invited to discover the talent of Quebec architects and to vote for their favorite project at oaq.com/prix2021 .
All over Quebec – and elsewhere in the world – local architects have distinguished themselves in the realization of commercial, industrial, cultural, institutional or residential projects, among others.
The project has obtained popular support among the 25 finalist projects will receive the Audience Award at a virtual Gala to be held on 1 st April. This unmissable event for the architectural community will be an opportunity to award several prizes to architects and their clients, highlighting their essential contribution to the quality of the built environment. The OAQ will also pay tribute to individuals or organizations that make an exceptional contribution to the achievement of distinctive and quality architecture by awarding four distinctions.
The 2021 Awards of Excellence jury is chaired by architect Jean-Pierre Crousse, Barclay & Crousse Architecture (Paris and Lima). It is also made up of the following people: Christiane Germain, co-president, Germain Hôtels, and architects Marc Blouin (Blouin Orzes architectes) and Kim Pariseau (APPAREIL Architecture), winner of the Prix de la Relève 2020 as well as Pedro Ressano Garcia (Ressano Garcia Arquitectos , Lisbon), visiting professor at the School of Architecture of Laval University.
About the Awards for Excellence in Architecture
Awarded since 1978 by the Ordre des architectes du Québec, the Awards for Excellence in Architecture are an opportunity to recognize and showcase the architectural achievements of its members. By inviting the public to vote and by rewarding exemplary architectural achievements, the Order contributes to developing a greater sensitivity to architectural quality. These awards, formerly awarded every two years, have been awarded on an annual basis since 2019.
About the Order of Architects of Quebec
The Ordre des architectes du Québec is a professional order whose mission is to ensure the protection of the public. To this end, it controls access to the architectural profession and governs its practice in Quebec. As part of its mandate, the Order is interested in any matter of interest to the profession or likely to influence the quality of architecture and the built environment. The OAQ currently has more than 4,200 members and more than 1,200 architectural trainees.
